My Right Side

Advance my hands
Into the freshness
A blade of sound
Into the vastness
Cleft from the sadness
Wild horse harnessed
With a magical flash
Like a mermaid tail
Cleft from the sadness
You and I and Atlas
Holding up the world
Hating every second of it still
But I’ve got a little thing
And you’ve got a little ring
Spent the night
Smelling chain link (chain link!)
Cleft from the sadness
Night light I might
Never sleep the same
Never be the same
Never be in pain
Counting on a lucky star
Driving down the street
Dashboard feet
Gonna tell me everything
And I listen to you speak
Though I’m slowly going deaf
And the engine’s getting louder
And we’re leaking gas again
I know what it’s like to be inches from death
And not care one bit
And keep driving all night
I found a prayer in my pocket
And your name was at the bottom
I know the spirit’s moving now
I can feel her in my mouth
As you decipher what this is
Shifting colors in the sun
Maneuver through the brush
Following into viridian
I made a wish
Lit a candle
Put a fiver in the tin
Smelled the incense
And insects were crawling on my skin
I found a lizard on a ledge
He let me look him in the eye
I asked him why he chose this temple
Told me “cuz it’s up so high”
I felt the mist coming in
From the ocean and the wind
Blew the sweet scent of jasmine
And Asiatic spice
It took a long time to get here
And I couldn’t even drive
But I found you in the flora
Because you’re always in my life
My fingers wander
My eyes do not
My arms are stronger
Than you thought
Murmur murmur
Countertop countess
We are nothing if not luxurious

There are signs
There are signals
Adding up to 108
There is no card higher
In the deck than the ACE
Crashing hearts
Crushing art
Books piled up behind the door
I could go on forever
I’ve done it before
Losing all my pocket change
Under the lip of the rug
Penny color
Take me under
Bring you up
Then pin you down
Fill me up
I’ll do the same
Wear me all day
Penny color
It’s an honor
I’ll keep you warm
I’ll keep you safe

A barely perceptible yet delicate move
Slide my hand under the booth
To break the boredom of a simple conversation
I don’t care what anyone else has to say
Beaming in the black
Illuminate
All the more
Give me yours
Get me out of this place with it’s hideous floors
I can feel you blush
and so I look away
I see you fold your hands
Though you’d never pray
And if you did
Would it be my name
Like a thread of saffron
in small glass jar
I should capture the light from this radiant star
Frame it up and hang it on my wall
You’ve got me feeling flush
But I won’t look away
At least we have each other
Because we hate this place
An arrow through the vapor
Glowing quiet in the street
Got you wearing all green
Kinda dying in the heat
Catch my breath for moment
Before I return again
Going deeper pulling harder
Falling faster I need water
I need it all I need it now
Don’t hold back
Just let it out
It’s a drug it’s a fix
Let me guide you by the wrist
Every darkness has a vision
Every sickness has a light
I could live in this forever
A garden of all fruits ripe
I can feel you blush
and so I look away
I see you fold your hands
Though you’d never pray
And if you did
Would it be my name
Like a thread of saffron
in small glass jar
I should capture the light from this radiant star
Frame it up and hang it on my wall
You’ve got me feeling flush
But I won’t look away
At least we have each other
Because we hate this place

There was a flash that struck me where I stood
I could barely believe the words as they slipped out of my mouth
Planted my boots into the linoleum
And braced my heels for the blow
Like a young colt afraid at the gate
All he needed was a little push
To be told it was alright
To be told this is your new home
For as long as you’d like
For me, it’s kind of a forever thing
I don’t let things go as well as I used to
That’s part of getting older
And though I have managed for the most part to avoid the aches of the body
I have seemingly done all within my power to give myself every ache of the mind
I’m back in the throes again
Snapping like chalk pressed in fear against the blackboard
I had to pause for a second
It was only to glance down at that counter
To make sure she’s steady
And sure enough, she’s not
Alright
It’s just trembling
I found a subdued kind of way to make myself large in that shrinking space
But a man like me can’t be made any smaller than the width of my shoulders
It’s a curse I guess
I cannot be concealed
I cannot vanish in the crowd
I cannot suffer this alone
I have to have you with me
If I could resist
It is likely that still, I would not
What a dense thicket in this kitchen
How did I get myself into this
Be careful who you wish for
The shade crept in closer
Under the whites of your eyes
There was an immediacy to the words that followed next
Shocks of electricity
Licking the tips of my fingers
and the tip of my tongue
Whatever this
Whatever is
Whatever we say it is
For any one who watches
Let them see
Let them be
Let me breathe my name
And your name too
The face of God mayn’t let me through
If you hear a shriek from room above
do not panic it shall vanish
just let me through
A beaming fire
in the palm of my hand
I shall be released
And remember who I am
If I rest upon your chest
Just let me sink into the place of rest
Again, let it flash
Bright white then let it die
See the the pain in my brain
Let it roll out slow
Tilt your head and your lips
Bring them close and your clothes
Start to smell like rose
And cigarette smoke
Be somebody so i said
Be mine said the ink of red
In the body of the letter
Doubt that I could say it any better
But I’m pulling out my pen
Just to try it once again
If you wanna live forever you’ve gotta do is sing

I wear a ribbon around my neck
I keep it on every time you’re gone
I wear a ribbon around my arm
I tie it off a little tighter each time
I’m all yours….
I want more
I want more
I want to bathe in the blood and the light tonight
I want more
I want yours
Kinda tricky just to get it all right now
Hold steady
Hold still
Midnight forever
Midnight tonight said
I’m at the door
You’re on the floor
I wanna bathe in the blood and the light tonight
I wear a ribbon around my throat
No one can see me when i’ve got it on
Ride down the highway
Looking for someone
In the house of silence
A blank photograph
Run deep into the valley
Hide me behind the trees
My Eden in the arms of a distant dying memory
I want more
I want more
I want to bathe in the blood and the light tonight
I want more
I want yours
Kinda tricky just to get it all right now
Hold steady
Hold still
Midnight forever
Midnight tonight said
I’m at the door
You’re on the floor
I wanna bathe in the blood and the light tonight
(DAMIAN… HI.)
I want more
I want more
I want to bathe in the blood and the light tonight
I want more
I want yours
Kinda tricky just to get it all right now
Hold steady
Hold still
Midnight forever
Midnight tonight said
I’m at the door
You’re on the floor
I wanna bathe in the blood and the light tonight

(Miserable, miserable that I am. Where am I? Where am I going? Where am I cast away? Who hears my words? Cast away indeed. Dreadful to the sight of the eye. Dreadful to the ear.)
A crimson sexual urge
Whipped into a fury of formless words
Criminal by any other measure
Permitted within this gilded vision
The cooling winds of night wipe clean the stairs of leaves
Leaving only dimpled, worn, chipped stone
A place for us to take a seat
As spine becomes bridge from step to step
Hands above your head
The tempers of lords
drive like dogs through the snow
Sled and sleigh
I said and slayed
(The god of whom we shall speak and whom we shall pray is called Apollo. He represents one aspect of omnipotence. He is the sun god, giver of light and giver of spiritual light. Our tragedy is largely concerned with the contrast of darkness and light. The darkness of blindness and the light of the eyes, the darkness of ignorance, and the lightness of knowledge. The darkness of matter, the lightness of spirit. Imagination. In fact, this place is a stage. Around us are cameras, great lamps, the machinery of making films, but now: imagine…)
What reclines below me now
Purrs and whines
And a narrow eye spies a pair of white boots
Crossing under the street light
Moving in a hurried gait
Whisper suspicions
Bewitched in the splendor
Flaming June
In a prison of glass
(A man becomes a tyrant out of insolence. He climbs and climbs until all people call him great. He sings upon the summit, and god flings him thence.)
(Is there a more miserable man in the world then the man before you now? Is there a man more hated of heaven? No stranger, no citizen may receive him into his house. Not a soul may speak to him. And no mouth but my own mouth has laid this curse upon me. Am I not wretched? May I be swept from this world before I have endured this doom. These things, o king, fill us with terror…)
A ballet for lovers
A v of swans in the sky
A pair of black boots
Once measured, twice tied
