In our apartment
In rare moments
Clouds break
Light falls
And house plants
Make shapes
Across the floor
Or swooping crows
Shade us
But little else changes
We burn lavender candles
We peel fruit and eggs and drink coffee
All morning
We watched her feed
A palm print smudged between
Poised as if to grasp from air
At any time this little life
Suspended there
In rattling atoms
Beyond the glass
I could not wipe it away
Though I longed to see clearer
This moment
I feared she’d flee
And we would too that feeling
Of wings beating
So fast our eyes
Focused in could not see
Anything at all
Beyond her
All of our life this hope
To have one thing so much the rest just vanishes
That night I dreamt we drank sugar water
And kissed again for the first time

The following day at the trailhead
An old woman pointed upward in a clearing
As we walked by at two butterflies
“They used to be everywhere,” she said
But you never see them anymore.”
We stopped to watch
You didn’t know them
But I did

portrayal of guilt takes the sinisterness of black metal and the emotional anchorage of screamo and creates the most evil-sounding, despair-filled, hopeless record you could imagine. Perfectly crafted and always makes me come back for more, I can never get enough of them. Haydin

Extremely well crafted work of blackened emotional art. Solid as fuck and a perfect listening journey for anyone who appreciates honest music with a vision. Sargeburt
Screamo, post-rock, and a little black metal meld together for Virginia quartet Infant Island's signature immersive and melancholy sound. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 28, 2020
"Curse These Metal Hands" parlays the UK bands' chemistry into a record which—for all its tinnitus-inducing ferocity and elegiac arrangements—practically drips with transcendent joy. Bandcamp Album of the Day Aug 19, 2019
Blinding, cinematic black metal with rich layers of synth make for an album sweeping in scope and punishing on impact. Bandcamp New & Notable Dec 5, 2016

Heaviest metal I’ve heard this year that doesn’t use microtones (e.g., Jute Gyte, Victory Over the Sun). This will pummel your face relentlessly for 22 minutes, and you’ll love every second of it. Yet it’s also incredibly catchy, which is by no means a weakness. And the engineer is to be commended for producing one of the filthiest guitar sounds I’ve ever heard on a record. A perfect soundtrack for the current pandemic and beyond. cassandraleo
